Born in China and now based in Munich, Germany, Ms. Jie Zhao is a European Patent Attorney and Chinese Patent Attorney having 10 years of full-time experience in intellectual property legal practice.

In addition to practicing European patent law on a daily basis, Ms. Zhao has been assisting European and American clients in obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights in China, thanks to her unique international experience and her in-depth knowledge of the Chinese intellectual property laws and practice.

Ms. Zhao received her Master of Applied Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada in 2003.

Prior to her Master´s studies, Ms. Zhao had worked at Nokia, China, as a telecommunication engineer for five years where she gained extensive industry experience by implementing and technical-supporting some of the largest mobile telecommunication networks in the world.

Upon her graduation from UBC, Ms. Zhao embarked on her career in intellectual property at UBC´s University-Industry Liaison Office. At this office she was engaged in the assessment, protection, and commercialisation of the inventions originating from UBC, one of the largest research universities in North America. Through her work at this office Ms. Zhao gained valuable experience in U.S. and Canadian patent laws.

Ms. Zhao started practicing European patent law following her move to Germany in 2005. She was admitted to the Bar of European Patent Attorneys in 2010 following several years of professional training at a renowned intellectual property law firm in Munich, Germany.

Ms. Zhao specialises in patent prosecution in Europe as well as in China, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, computer-related inventions, telecommunications, and mechanical engineering. Her professional activities also include patent opposition, invalidation, infringement, and expert-opinion.

Ms. Zhao is fluent in English, Chinese, and German.
